Back East Brewing’s Intergalactic Lupulinary is an IPA loaded with Galaxy hops from the boil to the second round of dry-hopping, resulting in a front loaded explosion of grapefruit and orange. The simple malt bill provides a superior runway for this beer to take off from, and at a slender 5.4% ABV you can guarantee a safe landing for everyone involved.
Back East remains one of Connecticut’s most consistent breweries when it comes to package store offerings. Chances are you’ve encountered several of their mainstays from their Golden Ale to their award-winning Porter. But if you get the chance to visit their taproom you’ll be in for one of the largest taplists in the state week after week, along with can releases that might not even make it to liquor stores.
I would suggest checking their website and finding out when the next release of Intergalactic Lupulinary is and go grab it the day it’s unleashed. Sure, you can wait around and hope it pops up at your local package store, which it total could, but this beer is like fruit, and you need to drink it fresh.
Those fickle Galaxy hops are so, well, fickle. By the time it reaches the shelves, the aroma and flavors are already fading. That’s why if you can’t make it to a release day, make sure you’re checking the canning date on the bottom of the cans before you buy them. Some people think the date on the bottom is an expiration and put back less than a week-old cans of beer, for shame!
BACK EAST BREWING
Poured into a tulip glass, Intergalactic struts a beautiful orange-gold color with a thick head of foam, the aromas of passionfruit and orange are already abundant. On the palate, you get a ton of tropical fruit and just enough bitterness to subdue the cravings. Take it from me, there’s a reason this beer is only around every so often and that’s to ensure that you drink it fresh. I’ve had this beer beyond its peak and although it was solid, it doesn’t even come close to when it’s in its prime.
Get to Back East and grab a six-pack, scour your local package store for a fresh offering, or find it on tap at the Hop Häus in Plantsville, Lucky Taco Cantina in Manchester, and bin228 gastropub in Glastonbury.
